[Sheflug] Something Wicked Happened!
Hi all,
Been getting this message on the servers:
<date> <time> <hostname> kernel:eth0:Something Wicked Happened! 001a.
The NICs are D-Link DFE530TX
Apparently the message is generated in response to malformed IP packets.
Most of the time we just get the message, but occasionally the network
card locks (The newsgroup archives say its due to a skewed buffer?) and
only a re-boot seems to cure it.
We could try updated drivers, but the cards really don't belong in
servers - we use them in workstations (with less than 1% failure rate)
and had a few spares lying around.
The best option IMHO is to replace the cheap network cards with
something more robust. Does anyone have any recommendations? They must
support Fast Ethernet 100baseTX.
Thanks John Southall
