[Sheflug] lilo
Hi,
I have been playing around with the Knoppix linux on a CD software which is
excellent and a really good intro to linux for anyone who has been stuck on
windoze. Anyway, I've installed it on the hard disk of one of my old
computers using the script which is included on the CD - very easy but all
in German... and I have sorted out the configuration all except for one
thing... or, at least, there is one thing which is still puzzling me.
To get it to work with my old ATI monitor I have to give it the
supplementary commands 'vga=normal' and 'screen=800x600' at boot time - not
a problem, I put them as 'append=' in the lilo.conf, however, in the first
section of lilo.conf is a line which says 'vga=791' which screws up the
screen in the first part of the boot process. Can anyone tell me what
vga=791 actually means or does? In practical terms I can change that line to
vga=normal also and the thing works OK but it doesn't then have the pretty
colours which knoppix usually uses for the startup messages. I assume the
791 could be changed for some other number which would work with my monitor
but how could I find out which number would be appropriate - other than
trying every one from 1 to ........
thanks,
Best wishes,
Ian
