Because Mozilla Firefox has update mechanisms, etc., which means you
cannot package it as Mozilla build it. If you package it, you also have
to remove the update mechanism / replace it with something which
integrates into your package system, for FHS reasons.

No, you can assign users admin rights to (e.g.) install software. That
assumes the software even needs admin rights to install - many pieces of
software you can just install in your home, as you can on GNU/Linux.

I vastly prefer the GNU/Linux way of doing things though; I find it much
easier to install software. But then, I don't use Windows a lot
either ;)
