The 25 August entry on http://www.david-web.co.uk/blog/ suggests a way, but 
this does involve changing the card firmware.

Whereas http://adsltech.com/portal/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1913&KW=linux has 
the PCI card running under the Linuxant wrapper.

What did you do to power on the light  LED_OFF=1 ?
Are access points close by?
What does a scan on iwlist?
