I tend to use emacs to write LaTeX documents instead.
You might know this already - Lyx is based on LaTeX - or LyX is a
wysiwyg GUI thing for LaTeX - take your pick. I prefer the layout LaTeX
gives documents but I have no clue how hard it is to make your own
templates in LyX.
I have version 1.3.6 of LyX installed on SuSE 10.
LaTeX is my preferred document prep system. Miles better tban the Word
clones IMO and once your authors get used to it they will realise what
they are missing out on.
