Re: [Sheflug] Re: Printing

Thanks Jose,

When I do a status check in lpc it tells me:

queueing is enabled
printing is enabled
2 entries in spool area
no daemon present

doing a restart in lpc gives the messages:

lp:
no daemon to abort
lp:
daemon started

However, when I do another 'status', I get the same message as I did
initially - i.e. no daemon present.

I assume its meaning lpd but that seems to be there in /var/spool and seems
to start when the machine does. I've checked the kernel config (by doing a
make xconfig) and parallel printing is in there. Do I need to reinstall one
of the rpms or is there some other file I could look at to see why lpd isn't
working - or is it maybe some other daemon, I'm out of my depth on this one.
Thanks,

Ian

I think your problem arises from the fact that there isn't
either a printer spooler present, or to the spooler simply not doing
it's job, being depressed by some lack of configuration. If you use lpd
or lprng (I think RH uses either of those), try to check the status of
the printer with lpc. In here, you can restart them and do all sorts of
nifty things.

I did have similar problems when having a Parallel port Zip disk
connected. Make sure you have the lp module in the kernel and look at
the printer logs in /var/log. Unfortunately, I haven't still had my
coffee, so I can't be of much more help at the moment, but it should be
easy to sort out.

Best regards,
José
