Richard,

another thing I've just remembered.

I can't remember whether it was bonobo or evo that had this problem 

but if it complains that it can't find libIDL 0.6.8 and you've
definetly got ORBit 5.7 installed the problem is that suse put ORBit in
/usr not /opt/gnome where it expects.

so before the configure you have to do export
GNOME_PATH='/path/to/where/all/the/orbit/stuff/is' 

Or alteratively just move ORBit to /opt/gnome
which I did cos I got sick of it
