The snapshots are available by RC, I can't remember which channel
though (useful I know :-() I think the issues with RC wanting to
uninstall RC before installing Evo have been fixed.

helix-update is supposed to work too if thats any use to you. Yeah I
agree GNOME 1.4 is sweet. As it's the revision time of year I've
suddenly found my self with a lot of spare time on my hand with which
to play with window managers etc. 
 
I'm currently waiting for the .10 release of evo so I can eat my hat
about my earlier comments. I've got 0.9 installed but it won't let me
compose so I haven't really got very far
