We might be of help (fair loat of "debianites" on the list) if
you give a bit more detail. What do you mean by "barfing badly"? From

Usually, one has to be careful with updatest to sid, as things
in dpkg and places like that tend to explode (libc and perl also tend to
fail more often than not). However, in 3-4 years running debian in
different incarnations, I only had serious trouble once or twice, and
that was fixed in a couple of hours anyway.
As I said before, you need to provide more input rather than
just saying "things don't work".
