You are using software of the previous century.  It's changed a lot 
since then.

I'm an SuSE and Debian fan but I reckon you'd be much better off with 
the latest version of Mandrake.  It's good. KDE 2 has a lot to offer. 
 You should use that or GNOME 1.4 which is also excellent.
