Me neither - certainly, I'd go a long with your boot disk idea. It's a
good idea to have a boot disk hanging around anyway. Doesn't actually
need to be grub - I find tomsrtbt (it's on google/freshmeat) very
useful, since you can do more with it than just use it as a rescue disk.

However, another idea is to fudge things in the BIOS - turn on virus
protection :) Usually, the BIOS will detect an attempted write to the
MBR and ask you whether or not you want this to happen, or even
completely disallow it. That should also perform the way you want it to.
